Land2Sea database of river drainage basin sizes, annual water discharges, and suspended sediment fluxes

چکیده
[1] The Land2Sea database contains data on the sizes of 1519 exorheic river drainage basins (79% of the exorheic land area), annual suspended sediment fluxes (593 rivers, 63% of the exorheic land area), and water discharges (1272 rivers, 76% of the exorheic land area) that have been compiled from a variety of sources. The database extends earlier compilations, such as GEMS/GLORI. The river basins are grouped into 19 large-scale drainage regions to investigate the regional variability in freshwater and sediment fluxes to various ocean basins. The annual suspended sediment flux to the coastal ocean ( 18.5 10 tons) is dominated by east Asia (6.1 10 tons); Arabia, India, and southeast Asia (4.3 10 tons); and eastern South America (2.4 10 tons). Small topical islands of Oceania support the highest annual sediment fluxes per drainage area ( 9650 t km 2 a ). Annual freshwater discharge to the coastal ocean ( 38,857 km) is dominated by runoff from eastern South America (11,199 km); east Asia (7114 km); and Arabia, India, and southeast Asia (4384 km). The empirical data agree well with results from global models (ARTandBQART) that have been trained on a subset of the data compiled here.

A New Hydrological Method for Estimating the River Bed and Drainage Basin Components of Erosion and Suspended Sediment Fluxes in River Basins
This paper uses the results of river suspended sediment flux (SSF) analysis to propose a new hydrological method for quantitatively estimating the river bed and drainage basin (sheet erosion, rill and gully erosion) components of total erosion intensity in river basins. The suggested method is based on the establishment of the functional power connection between mean monthly water discharges (W...

Predictions of suspended sediment load for Soolegan River, Iran using selected empirical equ-ations were made based on 355 data sets. متن کاملAnalysis of the Spatial and Temporal Suspended sediment of Qarahsu Drainage Basin
This study is aimed at estimating suspended sediment load in watersheds using hydro-climatic factors with the intent to determine spatial and temporal variations of sediment yield in Qarah Su drainage basin, Ardebil Province. For this study, data from seven rain gauge and hydrometric stations during a 22-year period were used. The research was based on statistical regression analysis between va...
متن کاملResults from the City of Atlanta Water-quantity and Water-quality Monitoring Program: Suspended Sediment, Trace Element, and Nutrient Fluxes, 2004–2005
During 2003, the U.S. Geological Survey established a major long-term water-quantity and qualitymonitoring network for the City of Atlanta (COA). During 2004 and 2005, suspended sediment fluxes from the COA to downstream receiving waters amounted to about 150,000 t y; ≥94% of the transport occurred in conjunction with stormflow, which also accounted for ≥65% of the annual discharge. This occurr...

The phenomena of erosion, sediment transport and sedimentations have tremendously destructive effects on environment and hydraulics structures. In general, sediment transportation depends on river discharges, but the proposed equations inherited with large errors. To evaluate the suspended sediment loads and an optimized model on them, in this research, data were collected from some sub-watersh...
